WELCOME TO DERRYLEA TREES for beech hedging to UK and Ireland. Situated in Co. Kildare, our nursery has been in business since 1990 and stocks a range of hedging and native trees, including beech, laurel, yew, copper beech and trees such as Scots pine and larch. Our beech hedging is available from 2 feet to 8 feet. The larger plants are rootballed for minimum disturbance and faster establishment. Customers are always welcome to view the nursery but by appointment only, please.

REMOVAL OF OVERGROWN LEYLANDII OR FROST DAMAGED HEDGES - All our hedging plants are hardy against frost and we suffered no losses on our nurseries in last winter's sub-zero temperatures. We provide a service for removing overgrown Leylandii hedges or frost damaged hedges, including shredding. We can replant with a more suitable hedge of your choice up to instant size. This service is available throughout the summer and autumn.

Stud farms and landscapers

Derrylea Trees supplies some of the top stud farms in Ireland with hedging, trees and shelter belts. We also supply landscapers and private individuals. It is important to plant hedging and trees which are not dangerous for horses on stud farms and around stables. Field Maple, for instance, makes an excellent hedge for horse fields as it has no thorns and is not poisonous. Click here for lists of plants.

We sell smaller sizes of hedging and trees in our Online Shop.

Which hedge?

The first thing to decide when choosing a hedge is whether you want a FORMAL HEDGE or an INFORMAL HEDGE. We have a selection of plants suitable for formal hedges, which are useful as boundaries and windbreaks. We also supply informal hedges (native hedges) which encourage wildlife and blend with the environment. Click here for more information on the best type of hedging for your garden.

Larger plants - Instant Hedging

We specialise in larger hedging plants for an instant effect. Ideal for privacy and a mature look. Click here for images of our larger hedging. Mature plants are rootballed to establish quickly and easily. This means that a ball of soil surrounds the roots. The soil is enclosed in netting that biodegrades when planted. For an instant effect, you should use mature hedging plants. We specialise in beech, copper beech, laurel and yew. These all come root-balled.
